Meet our 2019 Panelists

Denise Bevers, COO, KindredBio

Denise Bevers is an experienced pharmaceutical executive with a distinguished career in clinical operations, medical affairs, and scientific communications. With over 20 years of pharmaceutical and research experience, she has successfully managed dozens of product launches and development programs from Phase I through Phase IV. Ms. Bevers previously held leadership positions at Elan Pharmaceuticals, Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation, Quintiles, and SkyePharma. Prior to co-founding KindredBio, she was President and Founding Partner of SD Scientific, a full-service medical affairs and communications company.

Dr. Steven Fox, CEO, Fox Third Bearing

Experience and diversity are the hallmarks of Dr. Fox’s professional background. He is presently a private consultant for several prominent animal health companies and specialty organizations, and most recently the President of SECUROS. Dr. Fox received his MS (nutritional biochemistry) and DVM degrees from the University of Illinois and both MBA (Entrepreneurialism and New Ventures) and PhD (Pain Management) degrees from Massey University in New Zealand. He completed his surgical residency at the University of Florida and practiced surgical referrals for 15 years. Dr. Fox played a key role in the development and launch of both the Rimadyl and Deramax branded NSAIDs. He is a former president of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society and is a certified small animal surgical specialist in New Zealand.

Christina Lopes, CEO, One Health Company

Christina Lopes is CEO and co-founder of The One Health Company, the leader in precision medicine for dogs with cancer. Christina has been recognized as Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum at Davos for her pioneering efforts in both deal making and women’s health. She was Advisory Board Director for International Planned Parenthood (Western Hemisphere), which provides 30 million health services per year. Christina participated in The United Nations Commission for the Status of Women, and lectured at Columbia University. Christina was also honored a Rising Talent by the Women’s Forum in 2014.

Dr. Helen Newman, CEO, Veterinary Transplant Services

Prior to founding Veterinary Transplant Services, Dr. Newman was a Research Scientist at the Northwest Tissue Center. She is currently an Affiliate Assistant Professor of Orthopaedics at the University of Washington in Seattle and a Certified Tissue Banking Specialist (CTBS). Her research centers around tissue banking issues, including: cryopreservation of allografts (cartilage, heart valves, skin, and hematopoietic stem cells), viability assessments, clinical allograft outcome studies, and quality assurance validation studies. She now maintains consulting activities for a number of human tissue banks.

Dr. Vance Vanier, Founder & Managing Partner,
Chicago Pacific Founders

Dr. Vanier’s career in healthcare and innovation has spanned over two decades and has included successful roles as an investor, CEO, entrepreneur, and physician. Prior to Chicago Pacific Founders, Dr. Vanier was the President of Verinata Health one of the largest venture-backed molecular diagnostic exits in the last decade. His responsibilities included scaling global revenue, marketing, health plan contracting, and clinical affairs. He has served as President and CEO of Navigenics, a preventative genomics company acquired by Life Technologies and was a partner in the life sciences practice at Mohr Davidow Ventures (MDV). Dr. Vanier received his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and completed his residency training at the University of California, San Francisco, and Highland Hospital in Oakland. He received an M.B.A. from Stanford University, as well as dual bachelor’s degrees with honors. He continues to serve on the clinical faculty of Stanford Medical Center as an Assistant Clinical Professor.
